| Hi,
I am planning to move to Brunei shortly (mid March) and need some advise on importing my model aircrafts and heli's. Would someone be able to provide advise on things like flying field locations, radio frequency requirements, clubs, import regulations, or point me to someone who could provide me with some of this information? I will be based in the Seria/KB area.
Many thanks for any information.

| Hilko,
Welcome to Brunei and its great to hear from an RC flying bud from around the world.
Do take note of import restrictions on aeromodels and radio transmitting equipment to avoid disappointment. Since our club (BRCAC) is not yet officialised and control not fully in place, customs in Brunei are obligated by AiTi & Internal Security to confiscate if found. I have seen several expats who have been lucky as their container/ trunk (seafreight) have not been inspected thoroughly and gone past customs, however should you bring your equipment via air, it may be confiscated if found during inspection prior exiting the airport. Customs are generally strict on aeromodels which have been assembled with an engine/motor/receiver/transmitter. If its just a kit/ARF in box, usually you can get away.
FM transmitting equipment require registration via AiTi (radio license regulator in Brunei) and frequencies allowed are 72Mhz,40Mhz, 36Mhz, 35Mhz. Spektrum 2.4Ghz does not require licensing due to its public nature. Importation is currently only allowed if the importer holds a dealer license or a member of the previous RC flying Club under RBAF (Military) which is no longer accepting civilian membership.
The current flying field in Bandar undergoing approval will be at Tanah Jambu (currently 2 out of 5 parties have given formal clearance)..... other locations will be at owners risk and BRCAC will not be responsible for any mishaps to endanger the public. Hence discretion is advised. Parkflyers however should not be an issue.
BRCAC is currently in the process of formalisation. We have been engaging AiTi, District Office, Police, Department of Civil Aviations and Internal Security. So once all cleared we will be the main driving force for RC aeromodelling and hopefully other regional clubs will follow suit under our umbrella. Membership to the club and obtaining third party insurance cover will be obligated for anyone interested in purchasing and flying aeromodels in Brunei in order to maintain control as stipulated by the authorities mentioned above. We will announce once the club has been successfully formed!

| Axenz,
Sun direction is illustrative only and represent east/west direction (in the diagram it has North/South bearing - disregard that).... i.e. afternoon sun is West and morning sun is East. We try to keep the sun behind or beside us and this also follows the prevailing monsoon wind directions.
Thanks for noting that!

| rkte...
You're right.... it on the opposite side of the transformer substation. The bypass road is in between the substation and field.
At the moment, its pretty bare. We will arrange to transfer the wooden shelter from Mata2 and put up a windsock. With enough people to help around, we will clear up the land of rocks/ large stones pieces, etc...
