moving to Brunei Empty
PostSubject: moving to Brunei   moving to Brunei EmptyWed Apr 16, 2008 2:24 am

Hi guys,

So happy there is some RC Control Plane in Brunei. I should move to Brunei for 2 years in May .

Nama saya Didier , saya orang Perancis . Isteri saya orang Sabah. saya ada dua orang anak (kembar).

saya cakap sikit sikit bahasa Melayu.

i am flying only planes and Glider and regarding my spare time the last time i fly some planes, it was 3 years ago. i guess i need some practice.

I plan with my moving to bring my planes and all my stuff and i notice i need to be careful because of the regulation . it look like , it is better to ship all the stuff by plane.

Anyway it will be a pleasure to meet you guys and have some fun with you

Didier

Smile

Dear Didier,

Welcome to the forums and also welcome to Brunei. Your Malay is very good Smile

Anyways, as far as shipping RC aircrafts to Brunei, do take note on the import regulations.... especially via air. Aircraft models are only allowed provided that they do not contain a motor or engine as well as radio equipment - otherwise they will be confiscated by customs and will only be released after engaging the relevant authorities.

If you do bring in the aircrafts, preferably they are unassembled e.g. like a new ARF/kit in the box. Handling operations at the airport is not exactly world class, so if not packed carefully, you may end up with damaged goods.

We have two local hobby shops that can bring just about anything you will need. In order to get around the radio regulations, and also to minimise hassles wrt frequency clashes/ glitches, most are using the 2.4Ghz band. Our LHS stocks the Futaba as well as Spektrum series of radios and transmitters.

You can check http://www.chhobbies.com for an online preview of what is available in Brunei. Another LHS that doesn't have a website (Guan Hock Lee) stocks mostly Kyosho & Phoenix models

Anyways, where will be you working/ located? If you are within Bandar Seri Begawan, then the nearest flying field is at Tanah Jambu and you may get in touch with me. The map + coordinates to get there can be found in a sticky here. If you are going to be in Seria/ Kuala Belait, then you may contact AZRC.

Once again, we welcome you to Brunei and hope we can have some fun together. We have some expat friends who also fly with us (from Germany/UK/Aussie/Malaysia/Singapore, etc)

Hi Didierj,
Welcome to Brunei cheers . I shall not repeat what Owen had said regarding importing your things, BTW if you are going to stay somewhere in Belait District, pls contact me via this forum (PM). Sure we in Belait will direct you to our flying field.

Hope to see you again in this forum Very Happy and you are welcome to Brunei.

Hi guys

bounce

Thanks a lot for your advice, i have to think about that and perhaps i should bring only the electronic (radio, receivers, servo etc etc) tools ,one or two engines and the glider.

Where i am going to live , good question and i just start chasing for a house . i should work pusat bandaraya and i went only once to Brunei.

I should call the perancis embassy for advice . but i will prefer out of the city (suburb) .

Cheers

Didier

Sounds like you will be based in Brunei/Muara District.... so give us a shout when you do get around.

We'd be more than happy to get you settled in to the RC scene here.

Take care!

PostSubject: Finally   moving to Brunei EmptySun Aug 10, 2008 9:11 pm

Hi Guys,

Finally , my moving just arrived last week , and good news the custom was very gentle with me .

Just need to check if everything is ok and ready to fly again. I need to replace all my batteries and buy new li-po with a suitable charger. i am still using an old Futaba FC18 on 72 Mhz , hope it is not a problem . i guess most of you using new spectrum radios so it should be OK.

The biggest problem i guess : i didn't fly for 4 years now and using Mode 1 radio settings , hope somebody can just train myself for a while . guess i will fly alone in a short while.

So just one question : what is the best RC Control simulator nowadays ?

See you there guys

Didier

Hi Didier...

Its great to be hearing from you again....

I'm happy that your move went well! Welcome to Brunei.....abode of peace.

I hope you have settled in well.... do give us a call whenever you are free.. I will be back from work exactly a week from today, so do drop me a line.

FYI we still have 72mhz users in the field. I'm on it as well, besides 2.4Ghz Spektrum & FASST. Its always wise to check with any flyers in the field before turning your radio on.

Hmmm... Mode 1.... majority if not 90% of the flyers are Mode 2. We have, i believe 2 flyers in Bandar who are on Mode 1. Anyways, flying is like riding a bicycle... you wont forget and it will come back with a couple of flying sessions. I know it did when i left it like for 7 years back in 1999! then i took the plunge and flew solo with a foamy 3D plane in 2006. Whala.... it was like i took off and landed it solo....

As far as simulator is concerned, its pretty much personal taste. The current flavors in Brunei.... Reflex XTR, Realfight G3.5 and Pheonix Sim.

Hi Didier,

Nice to see you again here..... Like Owen said, it is difficult to find Mode 1 user here. But when you on simulator, just a few day you will recalled your 4 years skilled... Now the Pheonix sim is getting more popular now.... I still used the Reflex. Some still used the Free FMS.

Ok, see u some day.... cheers
