PostSubject: My first airbrush attempt... TREX600N   Wed Mar 19, 2008 7:57 pm

After suffering from a cracked and torn canopy as a result of a crash (adventuring new moves far too low) , decided to carryout a fibreglass epoxy repair (got some 150gr glass fibre cloth!) on the torn bits and also filled the cracks of the canopy (with epoxy compound).

Then carried out my first custom paintjob using an airbrush with Faskolor water based paints....i must say these waterbased paints are easy to work with i.e. cleaning using water only... but you need to paint multiple coats in order for the color to turn out solid

Check it out.... i must say i'm not that very good on the shadow details... need more practice with the airbrush..... but what the heck. My masking was also very poor, using those cheap paper tape masking tapes.... i wonder where i can get those 3M plastic masking strips.... so that the paint doesn't bleed away....

Hey Bro....thanks for the compliment and confidence!

U should see it upclose then u see what i mean!! Embarassed Once i have painted more canopies under my belt, then maybe i would be willing to try on for others.... hehehehehehe.... karang hampa ja....

Now what i need to do is get that clearcoat to shine nicely..... got myself the 2K automotive clearcoat, but problem is i don't have a spray gun to apply it.... so to seal this one i only used the Tamiya Pearl Clear (Acrylic) but not very shiny laaa..... even after two coats....

Hi Owen,

Yea the shadow is the most difficult job to deal with for airbrusher, I painted about 8 lexans just to get it right, You need to work with your psi and paint to acheive good result , i would suggest using 15 to 20 psi and thinning your paint with adding 3 full caps of plain water for Fascolor. Try and test to spray to a piece of paper until you are satisfy. About the masking take in Brunei.... Crying or Very sad i have been looking for long time already .. the result is not a single stationary shops sell good quality of 3m masking tape. i strongly recommend to get a BOB Devely liquid mask , it works the best for air brusher Laughing

Hope that help. If you need any help just come here i can show you how's it work and the trick.

Regards
cmod

Hey Cmod...

Thanks for the advise. Was just wondering if the liquid mask with work with painting on the surface? i was thinking liquid mask would be good for lexan bodies i.e. clear polycarbonate since u r painting from behind. However will a liquid mask work when painting layer on top of layer from above?

I guess i need to do more practicing on the airbrush... its a new skill to work on. Thanks for the tips on the airpressure and dilution. I did realize towards the end of my airbrushing that diluting more helps with lighter shades.... especially when working with black. Dilution also has an effect over type of color too.

What a Face
